Space Needle, Social Campaign
A celebration marked by finding the world’s first social astronaut.
The Space Needle is a globally recognized Seattle icon. For it’s 50th anniversary, The Space Needle needed a digital campaign commemorating it’s rich past and propelling it into the 21st century. Along the way, gaining followers, press attention and driving foot traffic to the landmark itself, resulting in ticket sales. A clear mission, we must mark the celebration by finding the world’s first social astronaut. We created a custom campaign application giving users the chance to win a trip to space, entering the contest either from Facebook or from The Space Needle’s website. This strategy boosted The Space Needle social brand by capitalizing on the renewed fascination with space travel, now available to consumers. Success was immense, starting with 36,000 entries in the first 24-hours. The Space Needle marketing team was able to keep up with the overwhelming response through an easy to navigate backend dashboard and content management system, where they could view, sort and monitor entries from aspiring social astronauts.
